One of my "talents" is the ability to admit when I screw up. It might not seem like a talent one would brag about but how many people admit to their mistakes? What did I do that was so terrible? I failed to mention Linkedin in the upcoming new release of my book. Jeez I'm an idiot.
I shared resources and talked about the things a new salesperson should do to jumpstart their career and somehow I managed to completely ignore one of the best tools available to new (and established) sales pros.
Linkedin - http://www.linkedin.com - is the world's largest professional online network with 24 million users from 150 different industries. Yes it can be used to find clients, but more importantly it can be used to research clients, find mentors and learn about industries. I have joined several Sales Groups to network with people both in and outside the IT industry. I have also scheduled a specific time each week to "work" Linkedin...creating contacts and working on my profile.
Did I mention the best part...it's FREE! There is a paid version but you can do so much with the freebie version. A great site that lists multiple articles on using Linkedin can be found at - http://tinyurl.com/2ltjg5
I'm still excited about the new version of my book that comes out the end of this month, and it does include some incredible resources and ideas for salespeople to use. It is just embarrassing that I blew off such an important tool. Now that I've admitted to my mistake I feel so cleansed!
Happy Selling!
