Yahoo had a very good article recently on the myths of finding a job in the current economy - http://hotjobs.yahoo.com/career-articles-6_myths_about_job_hunting_in_a_recession-784
Let me add my views:
The Myth That No One is Hiring - Now is the time for companies to find great sales talent. The only way they are going to survive is increase sales, they've cut all they can. If you can help a company on the revenue side you will have your pick of jobs.
The Myth that the Internet is The Best Place to Find a Job - You need to network. Remember my post about Kevin Bacon helping you land a job - http://tinyurl.com/b2nx3b
The Myth That Companies Are Not Interested in People Over 55 - Um...I disagree with Yahoo. Age discrimination still happens EVERY day! Sales is probably the one career field that has the most protection against "ageism."
Experience and Advance Degrees Guarantee a Job - Think of everyone you know who has a college degree. Now compare what they are doing with what his or her degree is in...discuss! The last line under this myth says it all.."sell, sell, sell!" Enough said.
Happy Selling!
