Given the number of unemployed today (13 million and counting) you would think that everyone who had a job would be happy...and you would be wrong. A couple years ago someone told me about "Imposter Syndrome," an affliction that successful people quite often deal with because of their success.
Imposter Syndrome is usually a collection of feelings of inadequacy that persist even when the facts prove otherwise. You feel like a fake; you think your success is attributed to luck or you just discount your success, i.e. "I got my promotion because management hated the other candidate." Individuals with Imposter Syndrome are deathly afraid of being "found out!"!
A common feeling today is from those who haven't lost their job while their friends and loved ones continually get laid off. Sure they are grateful for still being employed but there is massive guilt and a, "Why me?" attitude not unlike those who might have survived a deadly crash.
So what do you do? First realize that you are not perfect (sorry to be the bearer of bad news) and that you will make mistakes and that you are prepared to make those times a learning experience. Realize that self-doubt is normal and don't stress about being discovered as a fraud.
Success today CAN be tracked to luck...but only because someone laid the foundation to being lucky by working hard and being smart. Have the attitude that you deserve your success because you will need that same determination and passion to not end up a statistic. Better yet, look for someone to mentor. You'll feel better about yourself and the feedback of appreciation from the one you helped will be therapeutic for what "ails" you.
Happy Selling!
